Sara Jaeger

Welcome

This site provides an overview of my work and the philosophy that directs my research activities. I conduct research that uncovers the complexity of consumers’ food-related experiences.

My approach to research builds on three premises: (i) multi-method and interdisciplinary approaches are needed to research peoples’ relationships with food; (ii) using tools and techniques that are tailored to food-related research; and (iii) not taking account of context threatens the validity of food-related research.

More broadly, I am passionate about research training and have in recent years begun providing courses in research methodology and conducting sessions for emerging researchers about the oftentimes frustrating process of getting published in peer-reviewed international journals. Probably my background has a lot to do with where my career path has taken me. Since completing a PhD at the Institute of Food Research in Reading and the University of Reading (UK) in Food Marketing and Economics, I have held various positions in academia and at research centres, bringing me into contact with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines. This taught me ‘distance collaboration’, something that is necessary when you live in New Zealand, and which today defines a majority of my research activities. I plan to update this site every few months – the last time was 24 November 2007.

I am always on the lookout for new collaborations. At the moment, I am also actively seeking co-authors to work with me in getting existing data analysed and written up for publication. Some of these opportunities are described elsewhere on the site. Please drop me a line if you are interested or have another project that you think I may like to collaborate on.
